The Logan team continues to work at a feverish pace to get ready for the upcoming school year. We’re so excited to see your kids! This week, our staff is engaged in professional learning all week to further refine their online teaching skills. Additionally, this week, AAPS will be distributing nearly 18,000 devices over the coming days. This is quite the undertaking!

 

Below, I’ve include more information for families as we prepare the launch the 2020-2021 school year with your children. Please take some time to read through the details of this message. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Below you’ll find a list of our classroom teachers for the 2020-2021 school year. Our school continues to grow. We have added two new sections. Because of the shifts that occurred as a result of program selection made by parents, AAPS is still working to move staff around and fill positions across the district. Logan still has one position to fill in first grade. As soon as we fill that position, I’ll share details about the teacher with our families.

Technology Distribution Plan Reminder

In my email to families on Friday, I provided detailed information about the AAPS Technology Distribution Plan. Please refer back to that email if you have any questions. The full AAPS plan can be found on the AAPS website here: AAPS Technology Distribution Plan.  Getting a device this week is particularly important for any family that has poor connectivity or has no device or a non-working device at home

 

Rescheduled Meet and Greet Reminder

Logan’s Welcome Back Virtual Meet and Greet. The new date for the Meet and Greet will be Thursday, September 3, 5:00pm until 6:00pm. Students and families will receive a Zoom link in their class placement letter. You will use this link to access the Meet and Greet event with your child’s teacher.

 

AAPS Information Sessions for Parents

AAPS will be hosting two information sessions. Both sessions will be streamed on @a2schools.org website, and in order to better prepare and respond efficiently we would appreciate receiving your questions ahead of the event at a2schools@a2schools.org.

 

Session 1:  Information Session for Parents of Students with Special Needs

Tuesday, September 1st, 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM

This session will be focused on sharing information with parents of students who have an Individual Education Plan. Superintendent Swift, Assistant Superintendent, Dawn Linden, and SISS team members will be present to share information and respond to questions. 

 

Session2: AAPS Fall General Information Session

Wednesday, September 2nd, 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications  are available now! You can apply online or request a hard copy of the application to be sent to you in the mail. Applications will also be distributed with technology pick-up. Applications are available in six languages.

During the first week of school, instruction will be in the mornings only (8:10-11:20 A.M.) All teachers will spend time during the first week helping students become acquainted, building friendships, creating a classroom community and helping students learn to use Schoology, our new learning management system, and other tools we’ll be using for virtual school

 

Monday, September 14: Full Day Instruction Begins for Everyone

All students begin full daily instruction on Monday, September 14. Each day begins with a classroom Morning Meeting at 8:10am. The school-day ends at 3:13pm. You can find the sample daily schedule here. This is a general overview of the day. Detailed schedules will be provided by classroom teachers with more information about exact times that students will be synchronous and asynchronous.

Dear Logan Families, 

Dr. Swift, Superintendent of Ann Arbor Public Schools, sent an email to all AAPS families on Wednesday night with information about the upcoming school year. There was a lot of information in this email. If you have not read it, please do. Here is a link. One of the details in her message was information about technology distribution.

Tech distribution will take place Monday, August 31^st through Thursday, September 3^rd, 8:00am – 6:00pm. AAPS will distribute devices to ALL students. Every Logan student must get a device. Young 5s through first grade students will receive an iPad and second grade through fifth grade students will receive a Chromebook.  These devices will be preloaded with apps and materials that will be needed for school this year. All Logan families will pick up their devices at Huron High School. This will be a drive through pick up. You will not exit your car, and we ask that you wear a mask while interacting with our staff. This map shows how to proceed through the parking lot at Huron. The distribution has been scheduled by last name and will follow the schedule below.

If you received a district device last spring, please bring that device to the distribution next week. We will be collecting old devices before giving children a new device. Prior to arriving, please complete the AAPS 1:1 Form. If you cannot complete this form online, please call 734-997-1222 or email family_techsupport@aaps.k12.mi.us for further assistance.

Paperwork Drop Off

New families have been waiting for information about dropping off paperwork to complete their enrollments. We will be collecting all required documents at the tech distribution as well. If possible, we are asking families to bring original documents along with copies. We will check the originals and keep the copies. If you cannot bring a copy, please bring the original documents and we’ll make copies onsite. You can see detailed instructions about the required paperwork here. In order to ensure everyone is able to pick up their devices, we have decided to reschedule Logan’s Welcome Back Virtual Meet and Greet. The new date for the Meet and Greet will be Thursday, September 3, 5:00pm until 6:00pm. I recognize that this will create a conflict for some families with students at Clague. I apologize for the conflict. However, this new time will allow all Logan families to pick up devices at their assigned times prior to attending the Meet and Greet, and we believe this will make the transition into virtual school that much easier for your children.

Dear Logan Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year. Logan teachers are returning this week, and we’ll be working together to finalize plans for the upcoming school year. As you know, AAPS will be launching this school year virtually. The Logan staff is fully committed to running the very best virtual school until it is safe to return to in-person learning. In fact, I am proud of the fact that many of our Logan teachers are leading district-wide professional development this week and next in order to help our fellow Ann Arbor colleagues prepare for this work. We have a truly exceptional team here at Logan, and your kids will benefit from their expertise!

 

Over the coming weeks and months, you can expect to hear from me regularly. If, at any point throughout the year, you need to contact me, I am available by email at wright@aaps.k12.mi.us. Meet and Greet

It is an annual tradition at Logan to host a Welcome Back Meet and Greet. We typically gather on the playground and families have the opportunity to meet their children’s teachers. While we won’t be able to gather in person this year, we will still be hosting a Meet and Greet. This year, the event will take place virtually on Wednesday, September 2 from 4:30pm until 5:30pm. It will be especially important for families to attend the event this year. Not only will you get the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, but we will also be teaching the children (and their families) how to log into their classrooms on the first day of school. We will include information about how to log in when we send class placements information to families. Please do you best to be attend.

 

Class Placement

Our target date to share information about class placement with families is Monday, August 31 or Tuesday, September 1. Most Logan Families selected A2 Classroom Connect and A2 Student Link, and we have a few families who selected A2 Virtual as well. We are working our way through these selections and making adjustments to class lists. Families who selected A2Virtual will not receive a class placement letter from Logan since you will be working through the A2 Virtual curriculum independently. Families who selected A2 Classroom Connect and A2 Student Link will receive class placement information from Logan. A2 Classroom Connect and A2 Student Link students will be mixed together in grade level sections. We only had a small number of families select A2 Student Link so we do not have enough students at any one grade level to create a complete section of A2 Student Link only students. Please rest assured that when we return to in-person instruction, no one will be required to send their children to school if they don’t feel prepared.

 

Technology Distribution

All AAPS students will be receiving new devices for the 2020-21 school year. Young5s through first grade students will receive iPads. Second grade through fifth grade students will receive Chromebooks. The new devices will be preloaded with programs and apps, to assist students with their instruction. We know there are families with existing technology at home. However, this year we are asking that every AAPS student use a new district device. Once date(s) and times for distribution have been confirmed, I will share those with our school community. 

 

Materials Distribution

Similarly, AAPS will be providing all families with school supplies for students to use at home. This will include items like paper, pencils, colored pencils, etc. It will also include math journals and workbooks (depending on your child’s grade level). Not all work will require screen time so these materials will be important. Families do not need to purchase anything for school. We have not confirmed dates and times for distribution of these supplies yet. However, we expect this distribution to occur sometime after the technology distribution.

 

The Elementary School Day

While our final schedule is still being developed, you can find a sample schedule here: Sample Schedule.  You’ll note one significant change is the 8:10 a.m. start to the day (while in a virtual setting).  You’ll get many more specifics about your child’s schedule from the teacher as the year gets started.

 

InfoSnap Enrollment

If you have not yet completed the annual registration process via InfoSnap, please do so ASAP!  If you are unsure what I’m referring to or need help completing this process, please contact Mrs. Landefeld at landefeldc@aaps.k12.mi.us. If you have not yet made a program selection (A2Student Link, A2 Classroom Connect, or A2Virtual) for the fall, please also contact Ms. Landefeld ASAP.

Dear Logan Families,

I hope this email finds you well.  I'm looking forward to reconnecting with all of you over the next several weeks. I'm reaching out to draw your attention to an email from Dr. Swift that was sent to families yesterday. I’ve copied and pasted the message below for your reference. Returning Logan families should have received it, but new families to Logan may not yet be receiving district emails. Therefore, I'm CCing all our new families so you have this information as well. Dr. Swift  and the Ann Arbor Public Schools will be asking each family to make a decision regarding fall enrollment within the next week or so.  Please read through her email and click on the links to learn more about the different options. You will receive a separate email in the coming days asking you to select your enrollment choice (please note, the enrollment form linked in the email is not active).  AAPS has also created a FAQ page. Many of your questions may have already been answered there. Here is the link. 

I realize that there are still many questions to be answered, and that you're being asked to make decision for your child(ren) soon.  I will continue to do my best to answer questions via email and phone calls. I appreciate your patience when responding to your inquiries.  Rest assured that over the next few weeks our team at Logan will get answers to all of your questions, just in time for a strong start to this unique school year!

Ann Arbor Public Schools Reimagine Learning Update - August 5th

August 5, 2020 Hello AAPS Students and Staff, Parents and Community,     As we move into August, our thoughts naturally turn to back-to-school. We all recognize that during this COVID pandemic year, back-to-school considerations are considerably more challenging for students and parents, teachers, staff, leaders and across our local and global community.    Despite the many challenges, we excitedly look forward to welcoming our students to the 2020-21 school year. This fall will feature real-time, interactive learning, as well as a self-paced, independent virtual option. Students will be engaged directly with quality AAPS teachers, classes, curricula, visual and performing arts, STEAM and Project Lead the Way and a full array of rich AAPS program offerings. Every student will benefit from a district-provided device, customized for their grade level, to access virtual learning classrooms, assignments and learning activities.     During the 2020-21 school year, three program choices are available to parents featuring quality AAPS teachers and rich curricula and programs. A2 Student Link and A2 Classroom Connect programs include engagement with students, teachers and peers in a real-time, synchronous learning. A2 Virutal+ Academy provides students with a self-paced, independent, asynchronous program with AAPS teacher support. All programs focus on meaningful feedback, skill development, grades and academic progress toward the next grade level and credit toward graduation.       To better prepare to welcome our students, we ask that you complete a program selection for each student enrolled in the AAPS. In the coming days, you will receive an email from AAPS and K-12 Insight with an enrollment form to register for one of the programs and to respond to a few additional questions. Your response is requested by August 12th.
