Young 5s/Kindergarten Round Up

As we get ready for the new year, it’s not too early to start thinking about some of our youngest students who will start their AAPS experience as kindergarten and young fives students in the fall of 2024. Kindergarten Round-Up events are scheduled throughout the month of February and March at all elementary schools and K-8 buildings. We are excited to share with families the fun that awaits your children, meet our school staff, learn about the programs, the enrollment process and get answers to your questions.

Logan’s Round Up will be on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 6:00pm until 7:30pm. This event is designed for both children and adults. Families will have time to learn about our programs at Logan while children get to spend time in our classrooms with Logan’s incredible staff.  If you plan to enroll a child in either Young 5s or Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school-year, we hope to see you there!

You’re Invited to Join Us for NAAPID

National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) is the day we celebrate the importance of the role of parents in each child's education.  NAAPID will take place on Monday, February 12.

On this day more than others, we invite all parents and adult family members to visit Logan Elementary.  According to NAAPID founder, Joe Dulin " Education is the key to success and parents are educators' greatest allies."  Please consider spending all or some portion of your day with the Logan Leopards on NAAPID!  Teachers will share individual classroom schedules for the day. We will host an all school assembly at 2:00pm.

Early Release Reminder

Wednesday, January 31, 2024 is an Early Release Day. Students will be dismissed at 1:00pm. All families must ensure that they have a plan for their children at the end of the day on early release days.

Summer EBT Program

This upcoming summer, eligible families will be able to receive money for select food items through the new Summer EBT program. To receive the Summer EBT benefit, every family must have an approved student eligibility benefit (free or reduced) through their school.

Many families have already done this, but this is one last request for families who have not yet filled out an EBT or EBF application form. Turning in the application form to your school or online will ensure those who qualify will receive summer benefits.

What students are eligible?

Below are the annual income requirements along with the number of total people in the household (1-8). The household income must be equal to or under the amounts to qualify for summer benefits.

Applications and Education Benefit Forms must be received by February 1 2024. The BEST way to apply is online:https://annarbor.familyportal.cloud/ From there, choose "Apply for Benefits" then "Application" (non-CEP schools) or "Education Benefit Form" (CEP schools). AAPS CEP schools include:

Allen - Abbot - Bryant - Carpenter - Lakewood - Mitchell - Pattengill - Pittsfield - Scarlett - Pathways

If paper forms are needed, you can print one out at this link  here along with instructions and available in multiple languages. Please send the hard copy to your school by February 1.

Families can inquire about their benefit status or check if they have an application on file, by contacting AAPS Chartwells Food Service at (734) 994-2265 or email bollingere@aaps.k12.mi.us

Reminders About Reporting COVID Cases

We have had a few phone calls from families who have had questions about AAPS’s policies for reporting COVID cases. Here you will find information about district policies including a link for reporting cases. You will also find guidance for when students can return to school. To help minimize illness in our schools, we ask that you keep your children home from school when they’re feeling sick. Here you’ll find specific guidance on when to keep them home.

Monday, January 8, 2024

Dear Logan Families,

Welcome back and happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful break. There’s been a lot of excitement and spirit in the building today as we wait for Michigan to play in the National Championship tonight. It’s fun to see many kids wearing their Maize and Blue. At lunch today, a bunch of kindergarteners wanted to tell me that their parents had already told them that they could stay up late to watch the game tonight. We’ll anticipate some sleepy children tomorrow! If you’re a Michigan football fan, Go Blue!
