We’re Hiring: Become a Lunchroom Supervisor! 

We are looking for more people to work in our lunchroom as lunchroom supervisors. This is a paid, hourly position. Lunchroom staff work two hours per day supervising during lunch and recess. It’s a great way to spend some time with the kids during the day. Even if you can’t work five days per week, we’re still interested in talking to you! If you’re interested in learning more about this position, please contact Mr. Wright. 

Driveline and Dismissal

Driveline numbers were sent out Friday, and new families will receive a hangtag today with your Driveline number. Returning families can use the same hangtag from last year. Driveline is a dismissal program we use at Logan to ensure a safe dismissal. We ask all families to read through our dismissal procedures in the Logan Family Handbook. A few key reminders: 

• Buses park next to the lower elementary playground. Parents should NOT enter the back parking lot. Car drop off or pick up in the back parking lot is not permitted. 

• Parents picking up can wait in the car line. If you wait in the car line, you MUST stay in your car. If you wish to meet your child at their classroom, you must park in the Logan parking lot or in the street on Traver Blvd. 

• Parents waiting in the car line should pull all the way forward. Keep pulling forward as cars in front of you exit. Do not leave space in front of you so we can fit as many cars in the pick up line as possible. Do not load until you reach the front steps. 

• Only cross in the crosswalk and wait for our staff to stop the cars before crossing. Please do not walk between cars. 

• Remember, right turn only when exiting Logan. AAPD does patrol the area and we don’t want anyone getting a ticket. 

• BE PATIENT! Our priority is safety. Our staff are there to help ensure a smooth and safe dismissal. Please listen to them. 

Ann Arbor Public Schools Adult ESL Classes Available
Ann Arbor Adult Education offers several ESL classes for students 20 years or older. All ESL classes are FREE. Classes meet for 15-week semesters. IN-PERSON REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Registration will begin the week of August 21, 2023 and classes will begin the week of September 18, 2023. Both in-person and hybrid or virtual classes are offered. A Citizenship class is also offered for all ESL levels. Classes fill quickly on a first come first served policy. Details below. Translated fliers can be found here.

2023-24 COVID-19 Reporting and Info 

AAPS is using the same processes as last year to track and contain COVID cases. This information is also on the Back to School site on the district homepage, and under the Students & Families tab here.

AAPS Guidelines

• Parents/guardians, staff, and volunteers must report COVID cases to the district as soon as possible using the appropriate form below. Information is kept confidential and only used for outbreak monitoring.

• Be sure to report your student’s absence due to any illness to your school office.

• Read What to Do if You Test Positive for information on caring for a sick person, isolation and returning to school or work. 

• If there is a cluster of COVID cases at school, an outbreak investigation will occur in consultation with the WCHD. Parents/guardians, staff, and volunteers will be informed via email if an outbreak occurs in their classroom, team, or activity.

• Schools may have home rapid antigen tests to send home if there are clusters or concerns. 

• Family should the COVID-19 Symptom Checklist as a reference when your child is ill.

Introducing New Logan Staff

Logan’s staff remains very stable. Logan families will see many familiar faces this year. However, we had to say farewell to a few of our colleagues this summer. We say farewell to

New Theater Program at Logan

I am thrilled to share that Logan will be adding a theater special this year! Students in grades kindergarten through third grade will take theater as one of their specials classes. These classes will be taught by Bridgit Cook who is splitting her time between Logan and Thurston. I’m very excited about this opportunity for our Logan students! 

PTSO Welcome Back Coffee

Families are invited to join us for a welcome back coffee on the first day of school, Monday, August 28, immediately after drop off. It will be an opportunity to meet other families as well as some of our PTSO representatives. We hope to see you there! 

Reminder: School Breakfasts and Lunches: Free for Everyone! 

I am excited to share some great news regarding school meals for the upcoming 2023-24 school year in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. Recently, the state passed its budget, allocating $160 million to provide free school breakfast and lunch for all students throughout the school year. This means that breakfast and lunch will be free for all students this year. As part of the new law, ALL Logan families must complete the application for free and reduced meals. 

****Regardless of income, we ask all parents and guardians to complete the application which can be found here. Hard copies will be sent home in the opening day packets and we’ll have copies of the application in the office as well. Completing the application takes a few minutes; you only need one per household. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! If you are new to our school community, my name is Will Wright, and I am the principal here at Logan.  I am so excited to welcome the Logan community back for a new school year, and I can’t wait to see everyone! 

Below you’ll find information about the launch of our school year. I typically send a weekly newsletter to families with important information about our school and district on Mondays. These newsletters are posted in blog format, and I encourage families to bookmark a link to the blog webpage. The advantage to this format is that I can edit and modify the content of my weekly updates even after I publish the posts allowing me to correct errors when I make them. It also allows families to find all the information in one place without having to search your emails. I hope it is useful for the Logan community. Logan Young 5s/Kindergarten Play Date 

Do you have a child joining Logan in the fall in Young 5s or Kindergarten? Come join fellow Y5/Kindergarten families for an informal play date at the Logan playground on Wednesday, August 16, 4:30pm-5:30pm. Please refer to the PTSO flier for further details. 

New Family Orientation

New to Logan? Please join us on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 3:45pm for a New Family Orientation. We will have a tour of the building, share some vital information about starting the year at Logan, and answer your questions. You will also have some time to meet other new families. Afterwards, you can join the whole school community for the Welcome Back Meet and Greet.

Welcome Back Meet and Greet 

Please join us on Thursday, August 24, 2023 for our Welcome Back Meet and Greet. The event will take place from 4:30pm - 5:30pm on the Lower Elementary Playground. Come and meet your child’s teachers, see old and new friends, and enjoy a delicious popsicle!

Class Placement Notification

Class placement notifications will be sent via email on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Notifications will go out in the evening. Please wait until Wednesday, August 24 to contact the Logan office if you do not receive your child’s class placement notification.

We take great care in creating balanced classes. We consider many variables when creating these classes, and we are confident these groupings will meet the needs of our students. If you feel that you need to discuss your child’s placement, we ask all families to complete the first two weeks of school before contacting me.

First Day of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 28, 2023. The first bell rings at 8:42am and school begins at 8:45am. We will dismiss at 3:48pm.

Families can review the district calendar on the district’s calendar page. Families can subscribe to Logan’s Community Calendar using this link. It is a Google calendar. 

School Breakfasts and Lunches: Free for Everyone!
