What a wintery few days! I hope your kids enjoyed their snow day. It looks like we still have some cold days ahead of us. I continue to send reminders to make sure you send your children with appropriate winter weather clothes. We will go outside as much as we can.

Please Join Us for NAAPID 2026! All Families Welcome! 

Monday, February 9 is National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID). Founded by Joe Dulin, former principal of Roberto Clemente High School, NAAPID was a call to action for African American Families. Today, NAAPID has been expanded to include all families and is the day we celebrate the importance of the role of parents in each child's education.  On this day more than others, we invite all parents and adult family members to visit Logan Elementary.  According to Dulin, “Education is the key to success and parents are educators' greatest allies."  Please consider spending all or some portion of your day with the Logan Leopards on NAAPID!  




Permanent Food Pantry at Logan!

We have moved our Logan food pantry to a more permanent location so that we can maintain this resource for families and the community. We now have two options to access food.

  1. Food pantry cabinet inside the main entrance, across from the main office. Can be accessed during school hours. 

  2. Food pantry cabinet outside the building, by the front doors. Can be accessed at any time.


Both pantries are available to anyone who would benefit from extra food support. You will be warmly welcomed, no questions asked! Some items are kept in plastic bins to protect from rodents. We ask that you please make sure these are fully closed when you are done shopping. 


A huge thank you to our student council who will be helping to maintain these pantries. We will monitor supplies and send donation requests to the school community for any items we are running low on.

Upcoming NWEA Testing — Schedule Update

Some teachers adjusted their Winter NWEA testing schedules because of the recent snow days. Classroom teachers will notify families directly if your child’s testing day or time has changed. All other testing details and tips shared last week still apply. Please ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and arrives on time. Thank you in advance for your support.

New Logan ES @ Clague News - January 2026

To support construction of the new Logan Elementary, the following activities will take place on the Clague Middle School campus, and are referenced on the site plan below. Current Work, Weather Permitting:

  • Utility work continues, including water main work which is approximately 75% done.

  • Structural steel installation will be wrapping up this month.

  • Masonry is ongoing.

  • Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) installation is ongoing.

  • Work on the Geothermal Heating, Cooling & Ventilation system continues and is expected to take about 1-2 more months.

    • Drilling crews typically operate from 7am to 7pm Monday through Saturday, within the City of Ann Arbor Noise Ordinance.

 

Coming Up:

Students and staff at Logan will have an opportunity to sign the final beam, leading up to a “Topping Out” milestone when the final and highest beam is raised into place at the new Logan Elementary.

 

 

Current Clague vehicle traffic patterns are identified below:

  • Two-way traffic is now accessible from Nixon Road.

  • Entry is no longer available from Bluett Road due to construction.

  • Right turn only conditions:

    • Exiting the Clague driveway onto Nixon Road will be right turn only.

    • If travelling South on Nixon Road, there is no left turn into the Clague driveway. Instead, please continue travelling South past the school and use the first roundabout to travel back North on Nixon Road and turn right into the Clague driveway.

  • These conditions are anticipated to be in effect through the Spring of 2026.

Dear Logan Families,

Last week, our school came together for a wonderful MLK assembly celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King. All grades performed, and I’m so proud of our students for stepping onto the stage, especially after losing rehearsal time to the snow day. Thank you to Ms. Joslin for doing such a great job helping them prepare! 


Yesterday, Logan’s PTSO sponsored a Day of Service as part of our celebration of Dr. King. About 50 students and their family members joined us to make 24 blankets that will be donated to Ronald McDonald House, and they prepared more than 100 bag lunches that will be donated to Food Gatherers. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped bring Dr. King’s message to life in our community.

Dress for the Weather

With this week’s cold weather, it's a good time to send a reminder about appropriate winter clothing. We go outside in nearly all weather unless temperatures are below zero, so please make sure your child comes to school with warm layers each day. Hats, gloves or mittens, snow pants, warm jackets, and waterproof boots are all necessary when there is snow or slush.We also recommend sending a change of clothes to keep at school, especially dry socks, so children can stay comfortable if their clothes get wet.


If your child does not have needed winter gear and your family doesn't have the resources right now, please let us know. We're happy to help and can connect you with school resources to make sure every student stays warm and safe.


Building Safety and Building Visitors

In light of recent news, including the recent incident in Romulus and information shared this weekend by Superintendent Parks about Haisley Elementary, I wanted to send some reminders about building safety and our visitor policies. Safety is our most important priority. All visitors must be buzzed in at the front door. When attempting to buzz in, please be prepared to state your reason for visiting the building; after being admitted, all visitors must sign in at the office. While in the building, always wear a visitor badge. And as always, if you see anything that raises a concern for you, please contact our staff immediately.


I want to assure you that Logan continues to be a safe, caring community and thank you in advance for helping us keep it that way.


Upcoming NWEA Testing

All students in grades K–5 will take the Winter NWEA tests the week of January 26–January 30. Classroom teachers will share specific testing schedules for each class.


To help your child do their best:

  • Ensure they get a good night's sleep the night before testing.

  • Provide a healthy breakfast each morning.

  • Encourage a calm, positive attitude and remind them to try their best.

  • Make sure they arrive at school on time and bring any needed items (e.g., glasses).

MLK Assembly

This Friday at 10:00 AM we will hold a school assembly honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with performances by each grade level. Families are welcome to join us, but please note that seating is limited at school assemblies and we often have standing room only, so plan to arrive early and be prepared for limited space.



Logan Community Service Day - Next Week

In honor of Dr. King’s legacy, Logan PTSO is excited to host another Community Service Day on Monday, January 19th from 11am-1pm! This year we are happy to help Ronald McDonald House by making blankets for families who are staying with their loved ones as well as Food Gatherers to help support those who may not know when their next meal is.


We are looking for parents and community members to help donate food and time to help make this a big success. The link to the items that are needed are below as well as the link to sign up to volunteer on the day of the event to create the blankets and lunches.
