Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable spring break. As we return to school, I want to remind you to check out the “Important Dates” section, where I’ve added events through the end of the school year. Spring is a busy time at Logan, and we will continue updating this section as new events and activities are scheduled. Thank you for staying connected and engaged during this exciting time of year!

Class Placement Parent Input Form

Each Spring, our staff works to create class lists for the next school year. We consider many factors when we are developing class lists including: academic and social factors, students who require additional support (ex: ELL, Special Education Services, Reading Intervention,) ethnicity, and gender. Additionally, we seek input from families to help inform our decisions. Please use the linked form  to give us input about your child’s placement next year. ALL families in grades Y5-4 should complete the form. In addition to getting input about class placement, we gather information about who is returning and who is not. Please know that we value your input and want to hear from everyone.  However, our primary obligation is to develop class lists that are balanced and will best serve ALL students.  Therefore, we cannot guarantee any specific placements or requests. Please submit your input by April 25. 


Logan Family Traditions and Heritage Festival

The 2025 Logan Family Festival will take place on Friday, April 25th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Multipurpose Room/Gym. Families are invited to share a favorite dish by submitting their contribution by Monday, April 14th. Participating families should bring their dish to the gym between 5:30 and 5:45 PM on the day of the event, ensuring it is labeled and includes a list of ingredients. Flyers with more details will be sent home in students' Friday Folders. Attendees can also look forward to local sponsored activities and an exciting performance by The Apex Club, featuring yo-yo tricks, hip-hop, glowsticking, and staffing.

AAPS Job Fair

The Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS) is hosting an In-Person Job Fair on Tuesday, April 1, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Huron High School Cafeteria (2727 Fuller Road, Ann Arbor). This event is an opportunity to meet with recruiters and participate in screening interviews, so be sure to bring your resume. Sessions will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. To streamline the process, applicants are encouraged to complete an online application before attending. If you have any questions, please contact the AAPS HR Team at hr_info@aaps.k12.mi.us.

PTO income is lower at schools with more economically disadvantaged students and at more diverse schools, compounding inequity for AAPS students and families. Please consider donating $20 (or more) to help increase Ann Arbor Title I schools’ per pupil spending. If you can’t donate at this time, help spread the word about the fundraiser in our community. Join the effort to create equitable educational opportunities for every child in Ann Arbor!

 Dear Logan Families, 

This morning’s school closure came as a bit of a surprise! As you may know, AAPS was informed of a water main break, prompting the closure of affected schools to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for students and staff. The city is actively working to resolve the issue, and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

This will be my last newsletter before Spring Break. I hope you all enjoy a restful week off! School will resume on Monday, March 31.

Pi(e) Day at Logan! 

We had a great time celebrating Pi(e) Day last Friday! Coach Natalie spent the day teaching all Logan students about Pi, and thanks to the generosity of all of our Logan families, all of our students had a piece of pie at lunchtime. Thank you to Coach Natalie for helping facilitate the day, to all of our volunteers who helped serve pie, and to the Logan PTSO for helping to host another great Logan event! 




Clague Softball on Upper Elementary Playground - Starting April 7

Starting April 7, the Clague Softball team will be using Logan’s Upper Elementary playground for their practices. Practices will begin at after Clague dismissal (3:03pm).This change is necessary because construction on "New Logan" is beginning, and Clague’s after-school sports activities have been displaced due to the construction. Families should note that Logan students will not be on the playground during Clague’s practice times. Additionally, some field maintenance will take place over spring break to prepare the fields for softball. We appreciate your understanding and support!

Neighborhood pre-enrollment is available for new students for the 2025-26 academic year! If you know someone who is new to the neighborhood, please encourage them to enroll! 


Applications to AAPS schools, including Logan, are also being accepted for In-District Transfers (IDT) and Non-Resident Children of Employees (NRCE)between February 25 - March 31, 2025. Schools and grades with space availability are posted at the link above. Approvals are based on space availability and are not processed on a first-come, first-served basis. 2025 LaFontaine Teacher of the Year Nominations - LAST CHANCE!

The Teacher of the Year Program recognizes the great contribution teachers make in Washtenaw County and to the learning community.  This award recognizes and honors teacher experience.  It does not attempt to select the "best" teacher; but rather, to identify, from among many outstanding teachers, one teacher to serve as a visible and vocal representative of what is best in the profession.  


The LaFontaine family wishes to honor the amazing teachers within Washtenaw County and recognize them for their hard work and efforts they put in every single school year. The Teacher of the Year will receive a $5,000 cash award toward classroom expenses or continuing education; the second-place winner (Distinguished Teacher) will receive a $1,000 cash award towards classroom expenses and the third-place winner (Commendable Teacher) will receive a $500 cash award towards classrooms expenses.


If you’d like to nominate a Logan teacher, please submit nominations for the 2025 LaFontaine Teacher of the Year Award by completing this form by THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 2025

New Resource Room Teacher at Logan 

I am thrilled to welcome back a familiar face to the Logan community! Rose Brooks is returning to Logan Elementary as our new Resource Room teacher. She will be taking over for Ms. Havasi who, as you know, resigned in January. Many of you may remember Ms. Brooks from her previous time at Logan having served in a variety of roles including as a teacher in our self contained program and as a resource room teacher before stepping away to welcome her first child. We are thrilled to have her back, bringing her expertise and passion for supporting all learners.

New Logan ES @ Clague Campus - March 2025 News

To support construction of the new Logan Elementary School on the Clague Middle School campus, some tree felling will be necessary and starting in early to mid March. While this will be a noticeable change to the site as vegetation is removed and trees are coming down, AAPS values embodied carbon and is committed to environmental sustainability. Please note: Construction parking and construction access drives are for construction personnel only and to ensure safety, staff and parents should refrain from using construction parking and/or drives.

Rotary Fights Child Hunger Food Donation Drive

AAPS is partnering with the Ann Arbor Rotary Club to assist our local food bank, Food Gatherers, in its Annual Fight Child Hunger Donation Campaign. It will run this year from Monday, March 3rd, to Friday, March 14th, 2025. 


Hunger is real in Washtenaw County. More of our friends and neighbors are facing food insecurity than at the height of the pandemic. Our local food pantries are struggling to keep up with the increased demand. Please join us in our efforts to eliminate hunger in our community.


Logan is inviting staff, students, school groups, families and community members to join us in this campaign by participating in the food donation drive. Boxes are located outside the main office. Please consider donating to help fight hunger in Washtenaw County! 


Here’s a list of ideas for nonperishable items accepted for the food drive: peanut butter, canned meats, hearty soups/stews, canned fruit, canned vegetables, tuna, beans, boxed mac & cheese, dried pasta, canned pasta sauce, Ensure, baby food, formula, diapers, personal care items, soap/shampoo. Please no glass bottles.


AAPS 2025-2026 Enrollment
