Dear Logan Families,

What a great first day of school! It was wonderful seeing the children again. The day went smoothly, and there were many happy faces all day long! As is usually the case during the first week of school, buses ran a little late this morning and this afternoon, but we hope to improve the timing of bus routes in the coming days. All in all, a great start to the year!

I have a few reminders and updates this week. In this Weekly Update, I’ve included information about:

  • Blogspot Family Letters
  • Logan Family Handbook
  • COVID-19 Policies for the 2022-2023 School Year
  • Purchasing Breakfast, Lunch, and Milk
  • Free and Reduced Lunch
  • Important Upcoming Dates

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Will Wright

Blogspot Family Letters

Did you know that the contents of these weekly updates are also published on a blog linked on the Logan webpage? This year, I’m going to begin pasting the link to this blog in my weekly updates as well. I encourage families to read the updates in blog format. The advantage to this format is that I can edit and modify the content of my weekly updates even after I publish the posts allowing me to correct errors when I make them. It also allows families to find all the information in one place without having to search your emails. I hope it is useful for the Logan community. Please bookmark the page and visit it as frequently as you’d like. Here’s the link

Logan Family Handbook

We publish a Family Handbook every year. It is full of information for families, and I ask everyone to take some time to read it. It is posted on our website, and it is our hope that it answers many of your questions. Feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

COVID-19 Policies for the 2022-2023 School Year

AAPS released the COVID-19 health guidance for the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal is to keep students learning in school while balancing the risks of illness and transmission among students and staff at school. Families can view the AAPS Fall 2022 COVID-19 Health Guidance here. This is where you’ll find the link to report a case if your child tests positive.

Purchasing Breakfast, Lunch, and Milk

In the next section, you’ll find information about the Free and Reduced Lunch application. I also wanted to let families know that breakfast, lunch, and milk are available for purchase as well. Payment is made on the day breakfast is purchased or your student’s lunch account may be used. No advance ordering is required. Breakfast typically includes these choices: cold cereal, bagel, cheese stick, muffin, waffle, milk and juice.

Parents are encouraged to order and pay for lunches and milk ahead of time, but lunches can also be purchased daily. An envelope can be used to send in your payment. Please make sure that your child’s complete name, grade and teacher’s name is written on the envelope. You can also pay online for your child’s lunch. Information about online payment can be found at https://www.a2schools.org/Page/621. All you need is your child’s student identification number that can be obtained by calling the school office or by accessing it online via your student’s Powerschool account. Students are asked to maintain a positive balance in their lunch money account. \

Free and Reduced Lunch

Please see the linked letter for more details about Free and Reduced Lunch. This letter will also be sent home in your child’s folder on the first day of school

For the past two years, during the height of the COVID pandemic, all schools nationwide were able to provide free meals to all students through a federally funded program. At this time, the free meal program has expired, so schools must return to charging for breakfast and lunch. Free or reduced-price meals are available to students who qualify for these benefits. For the 2022-23 school year, breakfast will cost $1.75 and lunch will cost $2.75-$4.00.We encourage all families, regardless of income, to complete and submit a short, confidential school meal application prior to the start of the school year to ensure that there are no gaps in meal benefits for students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Parents or guardians can submit this application online Food Service / Free & Reduced Meal Application / Household Information Reports (a2schools.org) or in person at your child’s school office. It’s an easy and confidential way to ensure your child stays well-nourished at school.

Important Upcoming Dates

  • Friday, September 2 and Monday, September 5 - No School, Labor Day Weekend
  • Tuesday, September 13 - Logan Curriculum Night, 6:00pm-7:30pm
