Dear Logan Families,

The first day of school is quickly approaching! Most of you received my previous update. However, those who had not completed the enrollment process fully might have missed my last letter. So, if you are new to our school community, and this is the first Weekly Update you are receiving, my name is Will Wright, and I am the principal here at Logan. I send a weekly newsletter to the Logan community with important information about our school and about our district. These emails usually come on Mondays.

I have a few new updates to share this week, and I’m repeating a few from my previous update. In this Weekly Update, I’ve included information about:

  • Logan Family Handbook

  • New Family Orientation - Confirmed!

  • Welcome Back Meet and Greet

  • Class Placement Notifications

  • First Day of School

  • School Calendars

  • COVID-19 Policies for the 2022-2023 School Year

  • Free and Reduced Lunch

  • Important Upcoming Dates

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Will Wright

Logan Family Handbook

We publish a Family Handbook every year. It is full of information for families, and I ask everyone to take some time to read it. It is posted on our website, and it is our hope that it answers many of your questions. Feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

New Family Orientation - Confirmed!*

New to Logan? Please join us on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 3:45pm for a New Family Orientation. We will have a tour of the building, share some vital information about starting the year at Logan, and answer your questions. You will also have some time to meet other new families. Afterwards, you can join the whole school community for the Welcome Back Meet and Greet.

*This event is confirmed, and we are proceeding with it as scheduled. AAPS recently released updated COVID-19 guidance for the 2022-2023 school year and events like this will be permitted. Washtenaw County is currently  in the CDC High/Red Community Level. Therefore masks are strongly recommended while indoors. I’ll be wearing one, and you and your children are welcome to wear them too.

Welcome Back Meet and Greet

Please join us on Thursday, August 25, 2022 for our Welcome Back Meet and Greet. The event will take place from 4:30pm - 5:30pm on the Lower Elementary Playground. Come and meet your child’s teachers, see old and new friends, and enjoy a delicious popsicle!

Class Placement Notification

Class placement notifications will be sent via email on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Notifications will go out in the evening. Please wait until Wednesday, August 24 to contact the Logan office if you do not receive your child’s class placement notification.

We take great care in creating balanced classes. We consider many variables when creating these classes, and we are confident these groupings will meet the needs of our students. If you feel that you need to discuss your child’s placement, we ask all families to complete the first two weeks of school before contacting me.

First Day of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 29, 2022. The first bell rings at 8:42am and school begins at 8:45am. We will dismiss at 3:48pm.

School Calendars

Families can review the district calendar on the district’s calendar page. Families can subscribe to Logan’s Community Calendar using this link. It is a Google calendar.

COVID-19 Policies for the 2022-2023 School Year

AAPS released the COVID-19 health guidance for the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal is to keep students learning in school while balancing the risks of illness and transmission among students and staff at school. Families can view the AAPS Fall 2022 COVID-19 Health Guidance here. More detailed AAPS COVID guidance, including links for parents/guardians to report cases, will be posted to the district COVID protocols page by August 26. School nurses will be available to answer questions and concerns as the school year begins.

Free and Reduced Lunch

Please see the linked letter for more details about Free and Reduced Lunch. This letter will also be sent home in your child’s folder on the first day of school

For the past two years, during the height of the COVID pandemic, all schools nationwide were able to provide free meals to all students through a federally funded program. At this time, the free meal program has expired, so schools must return to charging for breakfast and lunch. Free or reduced-price meals are available to students who qualify for these benefits. For the 2022-23 school year, breakfast will cost $1.75 and lunch will cost $2.75-$4.00.We encourage all families, regardless of income, to complete and submit a short, confidential school meal application prior to the start of the school year to ensure that there are no gaps in meal benefits for students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Parents or guardians can submit this application online Food Service / Free & Reduced Meal Application / Household Information Reports (a2schools.org) or in person at your child’s school office. It’s an easy and confidential way to ensure your child stays well-nourished at school.
