We are one week away from welcoming your children back to school, and we can’t wait! Our teachers are busy setting up classrooms and preparing their arrival. We also have a week of professional learning ahead of us before we launch school. Please take a moment to read through this weekly update. Class Placement Notification
Class placement notifications will be sent via email on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. We take great care in creating balanced classes. We consider many variables when creating these classes, and we are confident these groupings will meet the needs of our students. If you feel that you need to discuss your child’s placement, we ask all families to complete the first two weeks of school before contacting me. If you do not receive your class placement notification, please contact the Logan office on Wednesday, August 25, 2021
Welcome Back Meet and Greet
Please join us on Thursday, August 26 for our Welcome Back Meet and Greet. The event will take place from 4:30pm - 5:30pm on the Lower Elementary Playground. Students will be able to meet their teachers and learn about the first few days of school. Since this is going to be a larger gathering, we are asking all children and families to wear masks. Families will not be able to enter the school during the Meet and Greet. We’ll have popsicles for everyone, but we ask that you wait to eat them until you have left school grounds where you can safely remove your masks.
Logan Family Handbook
The 2021-2022 Logan Family Handbook is now available on our website. The Family Handbook provides families with information about the operation of our school including safety measures for the 2021-2022 school-year. We will always communicate any changes to our policies and procedures to the Logan community. We will also post an updated handbook whenever a policy or procedure changes.
Lunchroom Supervisors Needed! We’re hiring!
We are in need of additional lunchroom supervisors. If you are interested in working in our lunchroom, please contact me ASAP. This is a great opportunity for parents who want to help out in the school and have availability in the middle of the day. The hourly rate for this position is $16.50.
COVID Safety at Logan
The handbook outlines the COVID-19 safety measures that will be in place at Logan. You can find this information in the Health and Wellness section starting on page 9. For many in our community, lunch is the time of day that is most concerning. We’ve worked to put in place as many safety measures as we can. Students will be eating in the cafeteria or in the gym. Only one grade level at a time will eat in each space thus maintaining grade level cohorts. Additionally:
Students are required to wear masks at all times except when in their seat eating. If a student needs to get up from their seat, they are required to put their mask on.
Students will eat in assigned seats with other students from their class. Classes within a grade level will be separated to the greatest extent possible.
To the greatest extent possible, students will be spaced apart from each other. For your reference, each grade level has approximately 60 students.
Outdoor eating locations will be used when possible and weather permitting.
How can families help keep Logan Safe?
In Dr. Swift’s weekly communication with the AAPS community, she shared some recommendations for families. I am including them again here as well.
If you haven’t already done so, get vaccinated and ensure everyone 12 and older in your household is vaccinated. For elementary students who do not have access to the vaccine yet, having parents and older siblings who are vaccinated can protect them from exposure at home.
We strongly recommend everyone in your family plans to get tested for COVID-19 within three days of the first day of school. An opportunity sponsored by AAPS will be announced soon. No-cost testing is also widely available at many locations in our community.
Make sure your students are up-to-date with all required childhood immunizations so that we can keep other communicable diseases out of our classrooms. More info here: www.a2schools.org/immunizations.
Once the school year begins:
Keep your students home from school when they are sick. Seek testing if they have symptoms or if anyone in the household has symptoms. Be available to pick up your child if they become ill at school.
Be careful outside of school. Avoid or limit your time indoors with anyone unvaccinated. When in doubt, wear a mask.
AAPS Extended Day Program, 2021-22
AAPS is offering Extended Day programming through our Rec and Ed department. AAPS Extended Day after-school enrichment program includes a wide variety of class offerings and exciting new community partnerships with A2 Symphony Orchestra and others.

Breakfast and Lunch Programs
As we finalize our breakfast and lunch plans in our school, here is information we want to share:
All meals are free to all students through June 30, 2022. No pre-ordering is necessary.
Breakfast will be available from carts at the entrances and taken to the classrooms to eat.
Students who want milk will also get a fruit or vegetable.
Lunch will be served in the cafeteria.

All allergen meals have to go through Chartwell’s dietitian - generally via the school nurse who contacts food service. This is protocol for each school. Allergen/Special Diet Request Form
Even though lunch is free for all students, families should still apply for our free and reduced lunch program. Other benefits are available to families enrolled in this program. Applications can be found here.
Bus Service
Bus service is available to students who live 1.5 miles from school. The bus routes to and from Logan have been published and you can find them here. Please contact our transportation department with any questions.
