Student Count Day
As most of you know, Student Count Day in Michigan this year is Wednesday, October 5, 2022, which is also Yom Kippur, an important Jewish Holiday. Dr. Swift has sent several communications about this to families, and I want to reiterate to everyone that there is not any requirement for attendance on a single day to fulfill the official count. We track attendance over a multi week period to ensure all students are counted. Students may miss the day for many appropriate reasons on Wednesday, and those who observe Yom Kippur should not have any concerns about not sending their children to school on Wednesday. If your child is going to be absent on Wednesday for any reason, we ask that you report the absence in advance. For families observing Yom Kippur, reporting the absence in advance will also prevent the school from calling you on the holiday. You can send an email to log_attendance@aaps.k12.mi.us or call the office. Thank you!
Free and Reduced Lunch Reminder
Free and Reduced Lunch waivers from last year end on October 10th. Families must apply again this year to continue receiving Free and Reduced lunch. If you believe you may qualify, please apply. Even if you are unsure if your family qualifies, you should apply. More information including links to the application (available in multiple languages) can be found here.
Apple Crunch Day is Coming October 13!
Every student can enjoy a free, locally grown apple plus special apple menu items! Learn more about Apple Crunch Day here.
World Flags Project - DEADLINE EXTENDED
Diversity is one of the great characteristics of our Logan community. The Logan Flag Project aims to celebrate diversity in a meaningful way. We hang flags in the multipurpose room so that our community can see and learn about other countries at lunch and during school events throughout the year. With new families joining the Logan community on a rolling basis, we want to ensure that EVERYONE IS REPRESENTED. We are asking ALL FAMILIES to complete the form by October 14th to have a current representation of our community. Thank you! If you have any questions, please email vus@aaps.k12.mi.us with the subject: World Flags Project. Here is the link: LOGAN WORLD FLAG 2022-2023
Blogspot Family Letters
Did you know that the contents of these weekly updates are also published on a blog linked on the Logan webpage? This year, I’m going to begin pasting the link to this blog in my weekly updates as well. I encourage families to read the updates in blog format. The advantage to this format is that I can edit and modify the content of my weekly updates even after I publish the posts allowing me to correct errors when I make them. It also allows families to find all the information in one place without having to search your emails. I hope it is useful for the Logan community. Please bookmark the page and visit it as frequently as you’d like. Here’s the link.
