Dear Logan Families,

Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful spring break! On the Thursday before break, we had the Logan Talent Show, one of my favorite events every year. Our students did such a great job! Congratulations to all of our performers and to our student council hosts!

The next two and half months will be busy at Logan! I’ve added all upcoming events through the end of the school year to the “Important Upcoming Dates” section below. Please make sure that you have these dates on your family calendars.

In this Weekly Update, I’ve included information about:

  • Class Placement Parent Input Form

  • The Solar Eclipse of 2024

  • Important Upcoming Dates

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. And don’t forget to visit the PTSO eBackpack blog linked in the Useful Links section.

Sincerely,

Will Wright

Class Placement Parent Input Form - Due April 26

Each Spring, our staff works to create class lists for the next school year. We consider many factors when we are developing class lists including: academic and social factors, students who require additional support (ex: ELL, Special Education Services, Reading Intervention,) ethnicity, and gender. Additionally, we seek input from families to help inform our decisions. Please use the linked form  to give us input about your child’s placement next year. ALL families in grades Y5-4 should complete the form. In addition to getting input about class placement, we gather information about who is returning and who is not. Please know that we value your input and want to hear from everyone.  However, our primary obligation is to develop class lists that are balanced and will best serve ALL students.  Therefore, we cannot guarantee any specific placements or requests. Please submit your input by April 26.

The Solar Eclipse of 2024

On Monday, April 8, Ann Arbor and much of North America will be treated to a special show in our skies. Unless it's very cloudy, we will be able to view an almost total solar eclipse where the moon will line up in a way that it blocks almost all of the sun. An eclipse this dramatic doesn’t come along often and we want to make sure students can view it safely.

Everyone needs to know that you should never look at the sun directly without solar viewing glasses, even when it is partially eclipsed. This is a particularly important reminder this year because the primary viewing time for the eclipse will occur near the time students are released from school for the day (starting at 1:57pm through 4:26pm).  We recommend conversation with students who walk and ride the bus to remind them about these items:

  • They should not look directly at the sun during the eclipse.

  • The maximum eclipse will occur at 3:16pm

  • Expect that the skies will darken during this time, earlier than you might expect this time of year.

In addition to in-school learning opportunities about eclipses, thanks to a very generous donation from Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union, we will be making solar viewing glasses available to all staff, students and bus drivers to ensure a safe and educational eclipse viewing experience. Students will take their eclipse glasses home for the walk or bus ride.
