Special Diet Program through Chartwells
Ann Arbor Public Schools partners with Chartwells to provide a Special Diet Program for students with medical dietary needs. This includes accommodations for food allergies (such as gluten, dairy, eggs, or soy), celiac disease, diabetes, and sensory sensitivities. Meals are prepared in an allergen-friendly kitchen and delivered to Logan each week, where our kitchen staff reheats and serves them.
To participate, families must complete a USDA Special Dietary Statement (SDS) signed by both a parent/guardian and a medical professional. The form can be found on the chartwells website and should be submitted to the district dietitian at aaps_dietary_requests@aaps.k12.mi.us before meals can be served.
Please note:
The program does not accommodate religious requests or dietary preferences.
While meals are prepared with care, they cannot be guaranteed 100% allergen-free.
On-site staff cannot make special diet changes without approval from the district dietitian.
If your child requires a special diet, please complete the paperwork to ensure their safe participation in the program.
Securly Home App for Families
In Ann Arbor Public Schools, we utilize a cloud-based web filter called Securly to keep students safe on their district-issued device. To help parents monitor their child's online activity at home, AAPS offers the free Securly Home app. This application allows web-based filtering and parental controls on district-issued devices at home. Parents may set rules to allow or disallow certain websites, pause the internet connection to the device as desired, and receive weekly usage reports. To OPT-IN to the Securly Parent Portal service, please encourage families to use the pathway as outlined below:
STEP #1: Read about the AAPS Securly - 25-26 Parent Portal Opt-In opportunity available to all families.
STEP #2: Sign-up on the Securly Parent Portal Program Form.
STEP #3: Look for an email from Securly when your account is ready to go (it can take up to 48 hours to receive).
STEP #4: Download the Securly Home App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
STEP #5: Navigate the App to explore different views into your child's online safety and check out the AAPS Securly Parent Portal FAQs.
If families have any questions, they can always reach out to the Student & Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
