Dear Logan Families,
As you know, the AAPS Board of Education decided to delay the return of fourth and fifth grade again. For those families choosing the in-person, hybrid option, the new return date is May 3 for cohort 1 students and May 6 for cohort 2 students. I know that this news was so difficult for many of you. I am very worried about our fourth and fifth grade students, and I am eager for them to return. Please reassure your kids that we very much want to see them back in school, and we look forward to their return. Their teachers spent last week setting up their classrooms so they’re ready for them whenever we are cleared to welcome them back into the building. I hope that date is soon!
In my Weekly Update this week, I’ve included information about:

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Will Wright
Parent Input for 2021-2022 Class Placements
We are beginning the process of creating class lists for the 2021-2022 school-year. If you would like to provide some input about your child’s placement, please use this form. We consider many factors when we are creating class lists including: academic and social factors, students who require additional support (ex: ELL, Special Education Services, Reading Intervention,) ethnicity, gender, and more. The information on this form will also be shared with next year's teacher to help plan for a successful start in the fall. Please know that we value your input and want to hear from everyone. However, our primary obligation is to develop class lists that are balanced and will best serve ALL students. Therefore, we cannot guarantee any specific placements or requests. Please refrain from requesting specific teachers as we cannot honor these requests. Please complete the form by Friday, April 30, 2021.
Earth Day Spirit Week
Thanks to the student council for organizing our Earth Day Spirit Week. Here is the plan:
- Monday - Dress in earth colors
- Tuesday - Clean something outside
- Wednesday - use recycled materials to create something new
- Thursday - Plant something at home (a table will be set up at the front entrance with seeds and plants for families who need them)
- Friday - Read about the earth
Dress for the Weather: Outdoor Recess
In previous years, we have kept children indoors on rainy days. However, with our ongoing efforts to minimize the impacts of COVID-19 on our school, we have decided to be a little more lenient in choosing to send children outside. If there is a light rain, we will still play outside. If it is pouring rain or there is thunder or lightening, we’ll have indoor recess. Therefore, it is important to dress for the weather. Plan each day as if your kids will go outside and dress them appropriately.
Logan Yearbook
Even though we will have spent most of the year learning online, we are still creating a yearbook for our Logan Leopards, and it is going to be awesome! As we have in previous years, we will be providing a yearbook to all Logan students, but we need some help. In previous years, we used money from school pictures to pay for a yearbook for each student. Since we do not have school pictures this year, we are asking all families who are able to purchase a yearbook for $10. If you are able, we are asking families to donate an additional $10 to pay for another student’s yearbook whose family may not have the resources to purchase for their child. We plan to distribute a yearbook to every Logan Leopard! Help us make this possible and consider donating. See the attached flyer for more information.
Heritage Festival Cookbook – DEADLINE EXTENDED
The Logan community is creating a cookbook as part of our virtual Heritage Festival celebration, and we want your recipes! Students, families, teachers, staff please send us your favorite recipe and a short description of why it’s special to you. Maybe it’s food from the country that you lived in before you came to Ann Arbor, or a special dish to celebrate a holiday. Maybe it’s a birthday treat, or your favorite dinner. Maybe it’s a recipe that’s been in your family for so long you don’t know who first made it, or maybe it’s something delicious you discovered this year during quarantine.
Everyone is encouraged to submit a recipe and everyone will get a copy of the cookbook later this spring. Information on how to submit can be found HERE and in the March Logan Ledger.
