Dear Logan Families,
Last Friday, our students had two memorable events! We were joined by Representative Jennifer Conlin, Ann Arbor's representative in the Michigan Legislature, who read to several of our classes as part of March is Reading Month. She not only shared wonderful stories with our students but also answered their thoughtful questions about what it means to serve in the legislature. Thank you to Representative Conlin for visiting.
We also celebrated Pi(e) Day in style on Friday! Coach Natalie led all classrooms in exploring the pi, while our fifth graders took on the exciting challenge of reciting fifty digits of pi. A whopping 28 students earned the opportunity to pie Mr. Totsuka in the face! As part of the celebration, all students got a slice of pie at lunch time. Thank to Coach Natalie for organizing the festivities, to Mr. Totsuka for being a great sport, and to all the Logan families who donated pies and helped serve them!

IMPORTANT- LOGAN TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGES - STARTING MARCH 30, 2026.
Starting March 30, 2026 Traver Blvd. at Nixon Rd. will be closed due to the City of Ann Arbor's road construction project on Nixon Rd.
Beginning Monday, March 30, 2026 through late summer 2026,, the City of Ann Arbor will close Nixon Rd. between Bluett Dr. and Traver Blvd. including access to Traver Blvd. We anticipate that Bluett Rd. to Traver will be opened again for the start of next school year.
The recommended detours include Plymouth Rd. to Huron Parkway to Traver Blvd. or from the north via Barton Dr. to Traver Blvd.
The closure at Nixon Rd. and Traver Blvd. will change the usual traffic patterns for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Families should plan for additional travel time and follow posted detour signs. Bus routes will also be impacted. We will share bus route information next week and post the adjusted bus route schedules on Logan’s website.
Cars and buses will be entering Logan via a left turn into the driveway. During dismissal, some cars can use the u-turn at the end of Traver and continue to line up along Traver. Once those spaces are taken, families will need to park and walk to the school. Please do not block driveways or use Meade Ct. as a drop-off and pick-up location as this is a private drive.
We strongly encourage families at pick-up to park in the neighborhood on city streets and walk to Logan to get your student. We also hope you will consider carpooling or walking when possible to minimize the number of cars at Logan.
Sidewalk access will be maintained but students will not be able to cross at Nixon Rd.
This is a city of Ann Arbor project. You can find more information here: https://engage.a2gov.org/nixon-project
We appreciate everyone’s patience and remind everyone to drive carefully and plan for extra time in the morning and afternoon.
Attendance Calls on Eid
Many of our Logan families will be celebrating Eid later this week. If your child will be absent from school, please email your upcoming absence to log_attendance@aaps.k12.mi.us ahead of time so that we can avoid disrupting families during your celebration.
Class Placement Parent Input Form - 2 Weeks Left to Provide Input!
Each Spring, our staff works to create class lists for the next school year. We consider many factors when we are developing class lists including: academic and social factors, students who require additional support (ex: ELL, Special Education Services, Reading Intervention,) ethnicity, and gender. Additionally, we seek input from families to help inform our decisions. Please use the linked form to give us input about your child’s placement next year. ALL families in grades Y5-4 should complete the form. In addition to getting input about class placement, we gather information about who is returning and who is not. Please know that we value your input and want to hear from everyone. However, our primary obligation is to develop class lists that are balanced and will best serve ALL students. Therefore, we cannot guarantee any specific placements or requests. Please submit your input by March 27.

PTOC 2026 $30 for 30k Fundraiser to Benefit Title I Schools' PTOs
The PTO Council has launched their 2026 $30 for 30k fundraiser. PTO income varies across elementary schools in the district with a range of $87per student per year to $245 per student per year. PTO income tends to be higher at schools with fewer economically disadvantaged students and at less diverse schools, compounding inequity for AAPS students and families. Please consider donating $30 (or more) to help increase Ann Arbor Title I schools’ per pupil spending. If you can’t donate at this time, help spread the word about the fundraiser in our community. Join the effort to create equitable educational opportunities for every child in Ann Arbor!
2026 LaFontaine Teacher of the Year Nomination - Last Chance
The Teacher of the Year Program recognizes the great contribution teachers make in Washtenaw County and to the learning community. This award recognizes and honors teacher experience. It does not attempt to select the "best" teacher; but rather, to identify, from among many outstanding teachers, one teacher to serve as a visible and vocal representative of what is best in the profession.
The LaFontaine family wishes to honor the amazing teachers within Washtenaw County and recognize them for their hard work and efforts they put in every single school year. The Teacher of the Year will receive a $5,000 cash award toward classroom expenses or continuing education; the second-place winner (Distinguished Teacher) will receive a $1,000 cash award towards classroom expenses and the third-place winner (Commendable Teacher) will receive a $500 cash award towards classrooms expenses.
Submit nominations for the 2026 LaFontaine Teacher of the Year Award by completing each section of this form by THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2026. Nominations can be submitted by colleagues, administrators, board members, parents, students, and community members at https://forms.gle/wovRLGwWg6TSfEQC8.
